Naples Zoo is preparing to create its first permanent giraffe habitat scheduled to open in an all new never-before-seen region of the Zoo. These elegant “skyscrapers of the savannah” will be sure to capture your imagination through an exhibit that will be both innovative and interactive. Preview Exhibit Now Open Daily from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Seven young reticulated giraffes are now at Naples Zoo. Enjoy them today BEFORE the full habitat premieres with the feeding and elevated viewing. The giraffe herd are now living in a temporary home. The giraffe were brought in early as it is better to transport giraffe when they are young as well as introduce them to each other.

As the Zoo fundraises for their new habitat, they will be quite comfortable as their area is six times larger than the state requires. Guests currently have a ground level view to look up at the world's tallest animal in this space.

Jack Hanna Started the Fun!

An Evening with Jack Hanna, Naples Zoo’s first major fundraiser for the new giraffe habitat in February 2010 was an unqualified success. “The event proceeds have made a significant contribution to funding the Preview Exhibit at the Naples Zoo,” said Executive Director David Tetzlaff. “We are very excited to have exceeded our fundraising goal for this event by over 50%. This shows us that the people of Collier County are as energized about this new exhibit as we are.”

An exciting feature of future plans will be the opportunity to get up-close and personal with the Zoo’s newest residents. Upcoming plans will allow Zoo guests to get close enough to feed the giraffes. “The kids are going to go crazy,” Jack Hanna, Columbus Zoo Director Emeritus, said when describing the experience. “That long eighteen to twenty inch tongue taking food right out of their hands. It’s a fun way to really connect people to nature.”


“Our historic garden creates a stunning environment for rare species and enables us to create natural habitats in a cost efficient manner,” says David Tetzlaff, Naples Zoo Executive Director. Since becoming a nonprofit zoo in December 2005, the Naples Zoo has added a new exhibit every year, and has seen record breaking attendance.

The Zoo is continuing to raise the funds required to break ground on the permanent exhibit as soon as possible so guests will be able to enjoy feeding the giraffe and seeing them face-to-face. “Memberships and admissions cover the lion's share of Zoo operations, so donations really help with the fun stuff,” says Tetzlaff.
