Drop Off Old Cell Phones to Help Animals!

According to the EPA, less than 20% of the nation's unwanted cell phones are being recycled. The good news is that all those phones laying around can be cleared out of the house and recycled by dropping them off at The ZOO Gift Shop at Naples Zoo.

Helping Wildlife?
Mining for columbite-tantalite (or coltan), a key component in cell phones, takes place in some of the most wildlife rich environment in Africa where mining activities have contributed to a 90% decline in gorilla populations and similar declines in other species in the Congo's national parks.

Naples Zoo is working with Louisville-based ECO-CELL, a company which pays organizations for collecting used cell phones, batteries and accessories. Through ECO-Cell's innovative program, 80% of the phones collected will be reused by first-time, low income users in Latin America or by selected local organizations, such as Battered Women's Programs, for emergency 911 calls. All unusable cell phones and accessories are recycled under strict EPA guidelines by certified recyclers.

Drop Off Times: Phones can be dropped off at the Zoo 7 days a week during normal zoo hours from 9:00 to 5:00 in The ZOO Gift Shop. Zoo admission is NOT required.
